Famous for being one of the Sex and the City ladies, Cynthia Nixon had breast cancer, October 2006, although didn’t reveal anything to the public until April 2008. Breast cancer runs in Cynthia’s family. Her mother successfully battled it when she was 12 years old, so regular mammograms were important to Cynthia. If she hadn’t gone to get her mammograms, the cancer may have been more difficult to overcome. Cynthia became an Ambassador for the Susan G Komen for the cure. What is inspiring about Cynthia, is that she didn’t hide from the fact that breast cancer ran in her family, and went for regular mammograms. If you have a family history of breast cancer…be wise- go for regular mammograms.
To make Cynthia even more amazing she recently appeared on Live with Kelly supporting her shaved head, all for her role in the theatre of Manhattan Theatre club, where Cynthis is playing the part of Vivian Bearing, a woman with breast cancer.
Kylie Minogue was diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2005 after initially being misdiagnosed! After getting subsequent medical opinions, it was found she had an aggressive type of breast cancer and underwent chemotherapy and breast surgery. After she received her “all clear” in 2011, Kylie decided to do an interview (which turned into a very emotional event). What the public learnt from Kylie’s experience, was that her family became her rock, and throughout her entire ordeal, she still tried to remain graceful and dedicated to her fans. Kylie is a role model to young women anyway, but her grace and dedication is something that is to be recongised.
Guiliana Rancic, one of the most recent celebrities to have been diagnosed with breast cancer. After going for IVF treatment in the hope of getting pregnant, she was advised to take a mammogram, only to reveal she had a small cancerous tumour. Guiliana decided to have a double mastectomy. The incredible thing about Guiliana, is that she really relied on her fans and the support of others to get through such a difficult time. Nothing was to get in her way, especially cancer. She returned to work one week after having the surgery! Truly remarkable!
So as you can see, these celebrities know how to do! Not every situation is the same, and people deal with situations( especially cancer) very differently, but it is great to know these celebrities can remain positive and beat cancer with the help and support of others around them!
Got a mastectomy bra that you love? Why not add it to your brayola drawer, and help other women find a bra to love!
